Support Relief Efforts for Maui Fires

For Maui locals eager to contribute to recent wildfire relief efforts, there are impactful ways to directly support your community. This is a continuously developing resource on how to help.

1. Get Educated: Private landowners have lived and worked in beautiful Lahaina, one of the most beautiful areas on the island of Maui. After hundreds of years, Lahaina has been reduced to nothing.

Please check out Maui Legal Preservation Fund to find out how government officials and corporations are preying on local land while we are the most vulnerable.  https://www.mauilegalpreservationfund.org/

Order a SheAKipa shirt to let everyone know LAHAINA’S NOT FOR SALE.
100% of profits goes directly to local families

2. Volunteer at Distribution Centers Here’s a link to all the distribution centers on island.

3. Donate to Maui Food Bank: Keep an eye on Maui Food Bank’s social media accounts for specific requests related to wildfire relief. Donations of non-perishable food, bottled water, and hygiene items are frequently needed to support evacuees and first responders. https://www.instagram.com/mauifoodbank/

4. Assist Animal Shelters: Maui Humane Society may need volunteers to help care for and comfort animals displaced by the fires. Check their social media pages for updates on how you can provide essential support or consider donating pet supplies. https://www.instagram.com/mauihumanesociety/

5. Join Clean-Up Crews: Once the fires are contained, local environmental groups and community organizations often organize clean-up efforts. Follow their social media channels for announcements about clean-up events, which can involve removing debris, replanting native vegetation, and restoring affected areas.

6. Offer Transportation: Share on your social media profiles that you’re available to provide transportation for those who have been displaced or need assistance getting around island.

  • Evacuees are reminded that emergency shelters do not provide bedding, toiletries and personal care items. Pet owners utilizing the shelter will need to have pets properly restrained.
  • A free Central Maui shuttle is available for people who are staying at any of the county-listed Central Maui shelters. The on-demand shuttle will be available for same-day rides to most shopping destinations and medical facilities in Central Maui. The shuttle will be available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (last pickup).
    • Riders will be required to call Roberts Hawaii for reservations at (808) 871-4838.
    • Mobility devices, such as wheelchairs, can be accommodated. Luggage and bags will be limited to what can be carried.

7. Coordinate Donation Drives: Collaborate with friends or community groups to organize donation drives for specific wildfire relief items. Use social media platforms to spread the word about what’s needed and where donations can be dropped off.

8. Create a Support Network: Utilize platforms like Facebook to create local support groups where residents can connect, share resources, and offer help to one another during and after the wildfires.

9. Share Information: Keep your social media followers informed by sharing official updates, emergency contact information, and resources from Maui County agencies, local news outlets, and relief organizations.

10. Fundraise Through Social Media: Start crowdfunding campaigns on platforms like GoFundMe to provide financial assistance directly to affected families, individuals, or community organizations involved in wildfire relief.

11. Offer Professional Skills: If you have specialized skills such as medical training, counseling, or construction experience, share your availability on social media for those who may require your expertise.
